Elsa Rebelo

About the Artist

Elsa Rebelo makes ceramics with the spirit of an alchemist, working with materials and giving them a new story. In the process, she uncovers narratives and intentions, in an enigmatic bond with the object created. 

Rooted in the ceramic tradition of Caldas da Rainha, Elsa has taken courses with local masters as well as national and international ones since 1988. In 1992, she became a teacher of the craft (Cencal), and in 2009 she assumed the role of Artistic and Creative Director at the Bordallo Pinheiro Factory. 

With her work Medusas, she took part in the XIII Biennial of Aveiro in 2017. She is the author of three permanent works at the Caldas da Rainha bus station, and in 2024 she was awarded the Medal of Cultural Merit by the Municipality.
