Sofia Águas

About the Artist

Ceramicist and designer Sofia Águas explores the intersection between tactility, form, and emotional resonance. Her practice combines material research with handcrafting, merging artisanal techniques with a contemporary aesthetic. Her pieces invite both contemplation and touch, creating sensory and emotional connections.

Sofia works with chamotte stoneware, oxides, and glazes, celebrating the raw and imperfect essence of the materials. Each piece is hand-shaped, without the use of molds or industrial processes, making it unique. High-temperature firings enhance the chromatic richness and texture of the clay, giving every object an unrepeatable identity. By challenging traditional ceramics, the artist transforms each work into a testimony of her vision and sensibility.

Sofia Águas trained in ceramics at Ar.Co — Center for Art and Visual Communication in Lisbon. Her path also includes workshops at Ulster University in the United Kingdom and a residency at Marphil Studio in Madrid. Among her exhibitions, highlights include participation in international events such as Lisbon Design Week, Ceramic Art London, and Marbella Design | Art.
