Architects Through Time: Discovering the House, Discovering History

Workshop-visit at the Foundation

In this ativity, students are challenged to take on the role of architects and space planners. Using a simplified floor plan of the Foundation, they work in groups to decide where to place the different rooms (kitchen, bedrooms, living room, garden, bathroom, etc.), justifying their choices based on activities, needs, and comfort.

Following this participatory phase, a guided visit to the actual space takes place from a comparative perspective, exploring its current layout and how it was organised in the past. Drawing on archival photographs, the activity encourages reflection on ways of living, domestic organisation, the evolution of hygiene and working conditions, as well as the transformation of spaces over time.

Through observation, argumentation, and the comparison between past and present, students develop skills in critical thinking, spatial awareness, and the appreciation of heritage.
