The Carp’s Journey: An Imagined Adventure

Activity in the Connections exhibition

The activity invites children to follow the journey of a small carp through the Albuquerque Collection. As they learn about the carp-to-dragon myth, passed down through generations, they are guided by their own creativity. As the gallery space transforms into a river, they move through the exhibition as if exploring an imagined landscape: each child becomes a carp, navigating between colours and mountains, where water flows across their scales, wings, or clouds.

From this story emerges a question: what might they transform into? Would they become a dragon or a similar creature? In the end, they draw what they imagine they have become: a new perspective on strength, persistence, and the beauty of impermanence. Finally, they are invited to search for the hidden dragons within the pieces, guardians of memory.
