Workshop on teas of Portugal and Japan, with Chá Camélia

In Japan, tea is more than a beverage: it is an attitude. For this reason, it is produced with great care. The steaming process preserves the fresh leaf’s characteristic emerald-green colour and its delicate aromas. Chá Camélia’s green tea production is inspired by Japan, while employing more artisanal techniques to express the unique terroir of northern Portugal. In this tasting, participants compare the aromas of Japanese and Portuguese green teas and discover several rare teas from both countries.

Teas for tasting:
Longchá: oolong tea (Portugal)
Houjicha: roasted green tea (Japan)
Sencha Minami Sayaka: steamed green tea (Japan)
Chá Camélia: steamed green tea (Portugal)

About Chá Camélia

Chá Camélia was born from the dream of producing tea in northern Portugal. Today, they cultivate 12,000 plants spread across one hectare, cared for according to organic principles and with a biodynamic spirit. In this way, they seek to create a sustainable cycle on the estate, in which everything used in the soil comes from the surrounding environment. Inspired by the ancient tea cultures of Asia, and Japan in particular, they follow an artisanal approach to producing high-quality tea. The harvesting of the leaves is entirely done by hand, and most of the processing is also carried out manually. Beyond production, they are dedicated to sharing the culture of tea and its fascinating rituals.
