Voices in Transit
Voice workshop:
Voices in Transit – Building a Collective Sonic Identity
As part of Grada Kilomba’s exhibition The Bottom of the Earth, this participatory workshop invites participants to explore the voice as a space of encounter, memory, and collective creation.
Led by Bárbara Wahnon, Paulo Baguet, and Orlanda Guilande, the workshop draws from the artistic experience developed through the performance of Grada Kilomba’s installation THE BOAT / O BARCO, sharing with the community some of the creative processes that shaped the sonic identity of the ensemble featured in the exhibition. Through listening exercises, vocal improvisation, rhythm, harmonisation, and collaborative creation, participants will be invited to explore how different voices, stories, and sensibilities can enter into dialogue and transform into a shared artistic language.
Inspired by the themes explored in the exhibition – the recovery of silenced histories, the construction of collective narratives, and the possibility of imagining new futures through art – the workshop proposes a hands-on experience in which the voice is understood simultaneously as an instrument of individual expression and a tool for community building.
More than a singing workshop, Vozes em Travessia is an invitation to listen, participate, and discover, celebrating the diversity of human experiences and the power of collective creation. Open to participants with or without musical experience, the workshop will culminate in the creation of a shared soundscape, shaped by the voices and contributions of everyone present.
The session on 18 July will be led by Bárbara Wahnon and Paulo Baguet; the session on 15 August will be led by Orlanda Guilande and Bárbara Wahnon.
